InnVest Hotels has acquired The Algonquin Resort St. Andrews by-the-Sea, Autograph Collection and The Algonquin Golf Course.
Stuart Alexander Jolliffe, well-known GM of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, passed away April 11. “Stuart had a lasting impact on the associates he worked with over so many years in the Canadian hospitality community,” said Marriott's Don Cleary.
Stuart Alexander
Jolliffe, well-known general manager of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel, passed
away on April 11 of a heart attack in his sleep. He was just 55. Stuart’s wife and soul mate,
Nancy (Graham) Jolliffe, survives him, along with his children, Annie and
Graham.
“Stuart had a lasting
impact on the associates he worked with over so many years in the Canadian
hospitality community. He was a great operator, leader, mentor and friend
to those he worked with,” said Don Cleary, president, Marriott Hotels of Canada.
“The extraordinary
outpouring of support from so many friends and colleagues since Stuart’s
passing demonstrates the significant impact he had not only in hospitality, but
in the communities he lived in. He will be deeply missed and fondly
remembered.”
While Stuart most
recently worked in Toronto, he spent many years in Nova Scotia, where he was
Delta Hotels’ regional vice-president Ontario and Atlantic Canada, and general
manager of the Delta Hotel Barrington Delta Halifax. His career with Delta,
which later became Marriott, spanned more than a quarter century.
Other roles with
Delta Hotels included, director of marketing and sales for the Delta Meadowvale;
national sales director for Delta Hotels; GM Delta Toronto Airport; and
vice-president, sales for Delta Hotels.
He spent his early
career in a variety of positions at Chimo Hotels from 1986-91.
In addition to
his role as hotelier, he was chair of Destination Halifax, working with the Hotel
Association of Canada to form the city’s inaugural DMO. He participated on the executive as treasurer and chair for 12 years starting in 2002.
Stuart’s love of
music, sailing, and his humanitarian efforts were very vital to him, as he helped nurture a strong music industry
inside Nova Scotia, as well as aiding many musicians on the road. He was co-chair of the host committee
for
East
Coast Music Week – Halifax 2013; and chair of the host committee for the JUNO
Awards – Halifax 2006.
A Celebration of Life for Stuart was held at Baxter Creek Golf Course, Fraserville, Ont., on
Saturday, April 21, 2018.
