Twelve Canadian hotels won the coveted MK Guertin Award at the Best Western Hotels & Resorts Virtual Convention held late last month. Canada was also represented in every other award category, and two properties’ indie films were featured.

MK Guertin: Named after Best Western Hotels & Resorts’ founder, the M.K. Guertin Award is the brand’s most prestigious award, spotlighting outstanding hotels that exemplify exceptional levels of quality, guest satisfaction and dedication to the brand.
Silver Anniversary: Members who have achieved 25 years of continuous services with Best Western Hotels & Resorts are presented with the Silver Anniversary Award for their unwavering support and dedication to the brand. Josef-Karel Carhoun and Natividad Lee Carhoun of Best Western Plus Mission City Lodge, in Mission, B.C., won this award.
Champion Design: The Champion Design Award is presented to properties that demonstrate exemplary levels of design, service and support of the brand. The awards are given in the following categories: Best Western; Best Western Plus, Best Western Premier, Best Renovation, and Best Experiential Design. Best Western Premier Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites & Conference Centre in Vancouver won the Champion Design Award in the Best Western Premier category.
Best Western for a Better World Recognition: Each year, we recognize Best Western for a Better World’s Legacy-level and Champion-level donors for their generous gift and their commitment to serving those in need. Best Western Plus City Centre Inn located in Edmonton, Alta. won this award.
Heroic Hospitality Stars Awards: This award is presented to remarkable members and corporate staff within the Best Western Hotels & Resorts family who are committed to creating memorable experiences and delivering exceptional service. The awards are given in the following categories: Owner/Voting Member; General Manager; Sales; Front Desk; Food & Beverage; Housekeeping; Maintenance; Corporate Employee and Corporate Manager. Two of this year’s winners were from Canada. Linda Armstrong of the Best Western Plus Pembina Inn & Suites, in Winnipeg won the Front Desk Award. Philip Bryant of the Best Western Premier Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites and Conference Centre in Vancouver won the Sales Award.

Two Canadian Best Western properties also produced indie films. The owners of two Canadian Best Westerns were featured in the films: Madeleine and Teddy Toner of Best Western Plus St. John’s Airport Inn & Suites in St. John’s, N.L.; and Brian Denham and Perry Batke of Best Western Plus Denham Inn & Suites in Leduc, Alta.
