New collective agreement signed by Aava Hotel Whistler workers

Wage increases and improved sick day benefits are key features of a new three-year collective agreement signed between Aava Hotel Whistler and Unifor Local 3000.

The new agreement reportedly includes wage increases of 13 per cent over the term. Aava workers will receive a total of eight employer-paid sick days per year.

In the region, the same union also represents workers at the Blackcomb Springs Suites, the Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa, the Mountainside Lodge, the Westin Resort and Spa, the Tantalus Resort Lodge, and the Whistler Lodge by Vacasa.

While unionization rates have declined over the last two decades according to Statistics Canada, union activity has reportedly grown in the private sector, particularly throughout and perhaps because of the pandemic.
