TORONTO — CBRE Canada is pleased to announce that Mark Sparrow and Luke Scheer have rejoined CBRE to lead an enhanced hotel investment practice. The team will spearhead a new initiative that coordinates opportunities with seniors housing, healthcare and student accommodations.
Sparrow and Scheer have built a formidable operating asset practice which is anchored in the hotel space. They are industry leaders with an extensive global network of clients and have executed some of the largest hotel transactions in the world involving Canadian assets. Sparrow and Scheer are joined by Ryan Tran and Aliya Kurbanova who are both uniquely skilled as vice-president and senior administrative assistant, respectively.
This announcement comes in the midst of a dynamic period for commercial real estate. The hotel sector has been particularly hard hit by the decline in travel stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sparrow and Scheer have returned to CBRE after working at from JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group for five and a half years. Both now hold the position of executive vice-president, CBRE Hotels. Bill Stone, who previously held that title, has left CBRE and formed Knightstone Hotel Group.
In his new position, Sparrow works with a national scope to lead CBRE Hotels growth in the Canadian market with a focus on client centred deliverables. Along with Scheer, he leads a dynamic hotel investment sales team that relies on leading underwriting, global and local marketing to build tailored disposition and acquisition strategies for clients. The team’s cutting edge approach has led to over $5 billion in investment sales since 2016 and +$8 billion in Mark’s career in hotel investment sales. Sparrow was executive vice-president at JLL before he came to CBRE. This is not Sparrow’s first time working at CBRE — from 2010 until 2015, he was director of hotels and associate vice-president, working out of Vancouver. He also spent almost five years as sales associate at Colliers International.
Scheer also worked at JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group for five and a half years, as senior vice-president and executive vice-president. He worked at CBRE from 2011 to 2015, as director of hotels in Eastern Canada. Prior to that, he was director of hotels at Delta Hotels for three years, asset management analyst for Legacy Investment REIT / Westmont Hospitality Group, and before that as a consultant at PKF Management Inc. (which is now owned by CBRE), working at both places for just under two years.
